New to wii softmod

Site update - March 16th 2010

AfterDawn.com has been updated! In addition to renewing the layout of the site we have also speeded up things considerably. The new version has been tested on our Finnish site for several months, and during the testing we have managed to improve the new version even further.

You can now enjoy this new layout at English AfterDawn.com and English Discussion Forums as well! We have also introduced new sections to the site, and re-arranged things a bit.

New to wii softmod

Hi there.Ive just bought my son a wii for xmas and im about to softmod it.the fw revision is 3.4E.ive looked at the tutorial for the 4.1 mod and that looks quite straight forward.However my friend says that i should upgrade to 4.2 and then mod it.Ive looked at the 4.2 guide and i dont like the look of it.
ive downloaded all the files and apps needed to do both mods bard the cboot file as i havent received a reply to the email you have to send from the guide link.Is it worth me upgrading as im not bothered about the wii store.any help if greatly appreciated.

I would recommend just sticking with 4.1, as i have no problem playing any of the games i've tried, never had it freeze up while playing any of them.

1st off, don't hijack someone else's thread, start your own!

2nd, try reading... there are guides that are stickied on the forums page, not to mention multiple posts referring to those guides.

If you have specific questions AFTER you read the guide(s) then ask.

i updated my wii today to 4.2 and then i softmodded it without a problem , if thats any help to ya

i wouldn't update. I don't know the pros or cons, but i figure the higher the wii update, the more they tried to battle the scene. i have fw 3.2u, and evrything i've done so far works good so far. i have homebrew w/ 4 working apps including conf. usb loader.
