I just bought a wii a few days ago and before i modded, I updated to 4.2.
Since then i've spent about, ah give or take 10hours researching this whole mod scene on forums and tutorials. Mainly focusing on how to play back up games.
enter the mod:
I got the homebrew channel up and then the homebrew browser.
Managed to get the wad manager set up but it freezes when i push 'A' to accept.
I've heard somewhere i need to downgrade my IOS, and at the same time i read that if i downgraded to a certain IOS or lower, i would break my machine. (i think waninkiko's softmod tutorial for settings 4.2)
I thought maybe it was because i didn't yet have a wad file in the wad folder so i downloaded backuploader 0.3.wad.
After the download was complete, i attempted to open the wad file but was unable to find a program to open the wad file with.
Then i attempted to put the unzipped/unopened backuploader 0.3.wad file into the wad folder on my SD card and then insert it into my wii.
When i pulled up my SD card, the backuploader wasn't showing on the blocks. Thats when i attempted to use my WAD manager again, but to no avail it froze on me again.
Ok, just in case anyone else reads this and is totally clueless as well... here are two guides that have helped out a lot. If you do softmod your wii successfully, please comment on these guides to let me know that it worked so that i can finish mine as well.
Hey man, I had the same problem because I upgraded my Wii to 4.2 but try this method, it worked best for me :]
Oh yea and to download the hack, the button is on the right it says "download current version"

I do try and carry on but after that the wii remote turns off and i have to pull the plug on the wii to get it to re boot so im guessing im doing something wrong at this stage.
