You can download the program online, locate your CD key on your old laptop and use that when installing.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio...ion_express.cfm

or

http://www.oldversion.com/Nero.html

And see this:

Quote:
1.Click START>RUN and type in REGEDIT.

2. Click OK. The Registry Editor will open.

3. Click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder>SOFTWARE folder>AHEAD folder>NERO BURNING-ROM folder>INFO folder

4. The serial number is displayed in the right pane of the registry editor. There you will find an entry named Serial4, Serial5 or Serial6. This entry will be displayed according to your currently or previous Nero install.

14xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 4 serial number)
or
15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (For Nero 5 serial number)
or
1Axx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (For Nero 6 serial number)

Please write this number down.

After doing what you suggested, dvd shrink doesn't recognize that Nero is now installed. Also the system says that Nero series 6 is not compatible with windows 7.

No Nero 6 isn't compatible with either Vista or Windows 7.It is only good up to XP.I think you need at least Nero 7 or higher.I'm sure there is another program that you can use instead of Nero. Here is a guide for using DVD Shrink.According to the guide you can use ImgBurn instead of Nero.
