Nerovision Tunnel In Rear

I saw this posted on on old version of Nerovision years ago and have run into it myself recently.
I have an AVI with PCM 5 ch audio; the front L(eft) and R(ight) channels contain mostly music, the C(enter) channel contains mostly dialogue, and the Rear L and R contain only music with echo. This original file plays fine in any player.
I created a DVD project in Nero Vision (Nero 9) and burnt the DVD files to disk.
When I play the DVD files in WMP or WinDVD or Nero Showtime, I get crosstalk from the front dialogue into both Rear channels. The dialogue in the rear is metallic sounding, like driving through a tunnel.
Has anyone seen this before, or have a clue why Nerovision is doing this?
