Hi guys, what i'm about to ask seems to be quite an uncommon and somewhat difficult question, but please help me here coz i have tried all the methods i could think of and couldn't solve this problem at all. First off, i'm familiar with how to convert videos and add subtitles to DVDs and watch them on DVD players etc, and this is probably the only topic that most ppl ask help for, but this is not what i'm trying to do. I have a PSP and a MP4 player, and i watch a lot of TV shows and animes such as Naruto or Bleach. If you're like me and download those episodes (they're free and legal to download), then you'll find that they're already subbed, and then you can enable the subtitles on or off when you play them in Media Player Classic or any other players. I.E, they're not really hardcoded subtitles, since you can turn it on or off to ur liking, and yet they're encoded with the video, i.e you don't get any subtitle files like .srt etc. You just have one video with the subtitle encoded in it, and you can switch it on or off. So here's my question, how do i convert the video so that when i put it on my PSP or MP4 player, that i can watch them with the subtitle on? OR, How can I rip the subtitles from those videos and then hardcode them into the videos??

Wow this is the 1st time that i've posted a question which nobody answered or can answer for 2 or 3 days on this forum....i've always gotten my questions answered pretty quick in the past, i'm just a little surprised nobody answered this and that it's a popular forum and one that i love to use a lot when it comes to DVD problems etc.....
I don't know anything about PSP. There are Console Forums here that might assist. The downloaded files that contain the subtitles are which format? Depending on the subtitle format, they may be extractable using the likes of MKV Tools (if they are MKV videos) and either usable or convertable to the required format - or simply hard subbed.
Although Avidemux can probably do it, I also like a lot Any_Video_Converter. It has a free version, and you can convert to an mp4(or whatever format you need for your PSP) and hardcode subtitles. You can batch process all your videos, it has an easy interface and it does a pretty good job(uses ffmpeg and MEncoder ): http://www.any-video-converter.com/download-avc-free.php The converter will detect the subtitles in the MKV container, just make sure it is the right language(if it contains multiple languages). You can check that in the preview window.
thank you guys for the replies. Great, i have Any Video Converter (full version). But the files of my video are .avi, not mkv. If you guys watch animes like Bleach or Naruto, they're all subbed already so you only download the video file, there's no need to download any subtitle files like .srt etc. But those subtitles aren't really hard subbed into the video file, because i can turn it on or off. So ya, i'm not really sure what kind of way they did that..... And i don't have problems converting PSP videos, just that i need those videos to contain the subtitles and not lose it after conversion. But if the subtitles aren't really hardsubbed, i'm not sure how that will work, but i'll try it on Any Video Converter and see how it goes..
I understand that the subs are not hardcoded...if they were, everythng would be much simpler, they would show up no matter what software you would use to convert to PSP...Avi, MKV, it doesn't matter, Any Video Converter will most likely detect the subs and will hardcode them during conversion...If somehow it doesn't detect them,you can extract the subs using AviMux_Gui and then manually load them when you set up the conversion.
