my ipod scroll dial works like a charm. however, none of the buttons seem to work. i'm stuck on the main menu and cannot select anything. i can't even reset it or turn it off. scroll works flawless though. what do i do?

It is toast! I have one about the same age and I have probably used mine more. My 'buttons' are starting to go. Sometimes I need to keep pressing to get them to work. The scroll part still works fine. I am figuring I will need one by X-Mass or sooner. I have a 16 g Sansa View picked out. I got one for my wife it is probably the best mp3 player I have ever seen and the kids like it for videos because of the extreme battery life.

The problem with Apple is your can't buy the same quality as the one that just died. They are now designed to die in about 1.5 yrs +/- .5 yrs. That way most ipods live past the year warentee. They even make the connectors paper thin so they wear out before the 2 yr mark. That costs them more money to make than the old heavy ones because the rejects must be much higher. They relised they made the old ones too good and they lost all that money because they lived too long. I have a 2 year warentee for the Sansa. It cost me less than $20. The player cost about as much as the case for my player that is on its last legs.

Perhaps you could contact the store you bought your Ipod from and arrange a deal. If you're still within your warranty time you might get a free reparation or a new one.
