OK afterdawn community im having trouble with my ipod classic...some of the songs on my ipod play other sit at 0 seconds play time then skip to the next song...ive tried clearing my ipod and syncing it again but im having the same issue. Now i saw this article on afterdawn today http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/20806.cfm im wondering if anyone else has the same issue or knows of a fix. im going to try media monkey today when i get home and see if that works. my other thought is that because this ipod uses a hard drive not flash memory, could the hard drive be dying? (also note my ipod is no longer under warranty)

Please please please if you have any infomation please share it im stumped

I believe Apple put a 'death punch' switch into the ipod software early this year. Most of the time it has been a security breach but not always. A bad build like this killed the Zune. The security routine got activated by some other event and about 25% of all Zunes were killed. Apple were never admit to anything other than there have been many problems. Media Monkey (in the scrips forum) is your only hope of fixing it. I am sure it is a data thing. Some switch got toggled and can be un toggled. You just need to know where.

I reread everything you wrote. I am not sure you have the 'death punch' problem. You would not be able to sync at all. Nor do I think your HD is at fault. The fact it plays some songs is a good sign. I would not have itunes on your computer and use Media Monkey or Winamp to sync your tunes.

MAKE SURE your tunes play on your computer before you sync them. We can hope the tunes are screwed up not your ipod. Let me know if a mp3 that played on the computer doesn't play on your ipod. Notice I specified an mp3. You might be syncing some format that will not play. They shouldn't sync but maybe you did something to over ride the logic without knowing it.

That might be your hard disk on either your computer or the ipod. Do the tunes that copy slow don't play?

Hard disks can be purchased on ebay.

Apple is the master at timing the experation of their devices. Also check out Sansa flash players. They are up to 32+ 32. That is a huge amount of space and no disks to worry about. The battery life is extream as well, 32 hrs on the View. The Zune does have better disks but the software stinks and you must use theirs.
