Did you just re-install windows? If so, why did you have to re-install itunes. I would uninstall itunes leaving the files intact till you know what you are doing. If you do the wrong thing, itunes will kill your ipod permently and you will lose all your music.

Are you able to see your iPod in 'My Computer'?

Check your cable and switch USB ports then try connecting to iTunes again.

Maybe you should backup your iPod prior to connect it to iTunes. You may end up with a wiped iPod if you don't pay attention.

Backup solutions are available on the web.

Try CopyTrans or iCloner for Windows.

Yes Dave there has been a huge rash of itunes wiping out ipods these days. You can more safely just copy the music and play lists from under the hidden folder ipod_control using windows explorer. It is not as slick but it is way safer. If the copy program 'leaves a mark' on the ipod itunes may attack the ipod permenently killing it. There is a bug with the latest ipod version of itunes. It should allow for a reinstall but it does not. No one has been able to recover one yet or if they have, they did not leave word here as they promised.

I am guessing one of the security routines blew away the ipod. The security routines have gotten super agressive these days. It shoots first, asks questions later. Except that they are dead!
