I have been searching other forums and threads and have not come across this problem yet. My 2nd Generation Ipod Nano will only work when connected to a dock. Once connected it will power and play but as soon as it is disconnected it will freeze. When connected to my PC the Ipod will not even be recognized and will not charge. Also it will not charge when I hook it up to a wall outlet. The only thing that works is the Ipod dock. I would assume my battery is fried but wanted to get some input before I purchased a new one and attempted to change it out...
Look on eBay for a battery. It will last longer if you charge it less. They last longer if you fully charge them them fully deplete them. If you do less than that they die sooner. Charging them constantly will kill them the fastest. That is why batteries are not included in the warentee. Most users abuse them.
Thanks Mez... I picked up a new battery and had it installed. The battery wouldn't hold a charge and now the ipod is totally dead and won't even power up when docked. Not really sure what is wrong now.
Sorry to state the painful obvious. It died a slow death. Maybe is was too old, maybe it got knocked or maybe is was not made very well. They do not make them like they used to. Mine is 4 years old but it will probably not last 12 more months of heavy use. The controls don't work right any more. I will get a Sansa View when it does. I got a 16 g for $65 and it is made way better than my ipod. Plus it plays about a dozen music formats and the screen is very vivid.
All the mp3s players are built cheaply these days. I buy returned players on the internet for less than half price then buy a 2 yr warentee for a few bucks. My wife's 16 g with the 2 yrs and shipping was less than 100 USDs. That is the way to go. One drop and they might die anyway.
That is a great idea with the warranty. Where are you able to get a warranty that lasts for two years?
Square trade you can only get it with internet deals. I have yet to use one yet. 2 yrs was only like $17 because the mp3 player was $65. I will probably need it only if it gets dropped onto a hard surface. Maybe the best part is the scroll wheel. I HATE scroll wheels because they are nasty to use. However, the one on the Sansa is so well made it is OK. It is in a different league than the iopd. It is a joke something 10 times better sells for half. That is why they took 10% of market share from ipod last year. This year will be the same. They are the only company to punish Apple in this market. Our family has ipods and a Zune but the Sansa View is the one everyone covets. The Sansa Clip is nice too but it lacks the sex appeal of the View.
