iPod Shuffle Not Working (1st Generation)

The title seems a bit vague, but it's what my iPod is doing. Not working. Well, what happened was, I opened iTunes and plugged in my iPod Shuffle (1st Generation). However, my iTunes was freezing up my whole computer, so I decided to End Task iTunes. Once iTunes was ended, I took the Shuffle out of the USB Port and left it on my desk. I then reopened iTunes and tried to plug in the Shuffle, but it said something was malfunctioning and instead of "Apple iPod Device Located" it said "STMP3000". So, the iPod won't connect to the computer anymore and when I push on the buttons, the lights do not show... So is there a way to fix this? Or is the shuffle "dead"?
