I have a 1G, 8GB Touch that when I sync is adding data to the óther´ file. I looked up the problem on Apples site. They suggested I might be not ejecting before I remove the Ipod from the computer but that is not so. Has anyone else any suggestions on how to stop this from happening? I have restored 3 times to clear the óther´file. It clears but then starts populating once I start to sync the machine again.

Well, iTunes doesn't let you because it'll lose money.
*an iPod is just like a storage device - kinda like a USB. so all ur music/videos are in there but hidden -- all u need to do is unhide them
And i share you a column about iPod Sync & Transfer. This has worked perfectly for me everytime I've tried it.
Hope it can do you a favor.
