New Touch...is it 2g or 3g?

Hi Guys.

Hoping someone can give me a definite answer for this, as google results seem to contradict themselves, and can't seem to find a straight answer.

I'm thinking of getting myself a new touch, as my old nano is getting pretty battered now.
I'd probably be going for the 8/16gb model, as I don't think I would ever need anything larger.

So, would the 8/16gb be a 3g, or are the 3g's only the new 32/64gb ones?

Also, if it is 2g, i understand i can jailbreak as usual through Blackra1n? But if it's 3g, the system will still jailbreak, but be teathered?
If it's going to be teathered I don't think i would bother with the jailbreak...not for all the hassle of restoring it each time the battery dies.

if you buy your ipod touch after the 9th of september then it will be a 3rd gen
