If they are backup DVDs, then yes possibly, if you are using poor quality media brands, then it will wear out the laser quicker than normal. Stick to Verbatim.
The laser operates at a fixed power level. The focusing mechanism and the spindle motor of the drive may make a few more passes than usual, but I don't see how a poor quality recording can damage a drive unless the disc fractures within the drive. Recording drives, on the other hand, have multiple power levels; and they may try several levels to obtain a suitable S/N ratio from the inner bands of a DVD-R/+R during recording. (Pioneer had an early 2X DVD-R drive that could burn itself out when trying to record newer 4X media, but Pioneer issued a firmware update to fix that problem.) But since the question is about the X-Box, the correct technical answer is, "No."
nope, all xboxes can play DVD's and have no problem. and responding to the guy who said that they have built in HDDVD drives, that is totally NOT TRUE. To play HDDVD's, you have to buy a separate external drive.
