I was thinking of trying Linux out on my old computer (haven't decided on which version). What I want to know is: How hard is it to connect a Linux machine to my home network (Netgear router, other machines running Windows) compared to doing it in Windows.
Also, if I booted Linux from a CD (just to try), could I just open a browser and browse the net or would I have to connect my computer again to my router?

    Add info:
Old comp: 750MB RAM; AMD AthlonXP 1600+ 1.41 GHz; primary HDD 40GB, secondary 80GB HDD...

It all depends if your hardware is supported by your linux of choice. Heres a surprise.. Linux has far better hardware support than ever seen in any M$ product. Boot from whatever live cd and see what happens.. stacks of guides for whatever distro out there. Linux is THE system which runs the internet.. it's made for networking.
