I recently purchased a Technomate 800hd to use in Spain with a legitimate viewing card from the UK. I need some and advise on the 800hd receiver. According to the website detail it has the latest firmware and I assumed it would be a case of setting it up and I would have tv. So far I have found that it does not accept the subscription viewing card or the Freesat card that I was using in the Bigsat box. I also notice that the channels it picks up on a scan are possibly the same if not less than the cheap £40 Bigsat box that I have used. One reason I chose the 800 hd was that it was supposed to be a strong receiver which was good in an area that has a week signal strength. I have a 1.4m motorized dish. What I would like to know. 1. How do I get this box to accept my subscription card 2. How do I get it to find more channels.

I bet you are outside the UK beam.. as for the card .. pass.. what does this have to do with linux? fyi.. the tropospheric ducts are opening up nicely this season with strong DX reception right up the uhf bands.. F2+3 are particularly good right now.. this could be causing quite a bit of backscatter during certain times of day.. maybe your local dx-tv forums might have more info on local conditions.. the boxes are often these days card/region locked.. if you are in the es/pt beam rather than the uk beam that might explain why your card isn't working.
Not really the helpful friendly reply I was expecting. Anyway, outside the UK bean yes, the fact I said to use in Spain was a bit of a give away. Whats it to do with Linux, well I couldnt find a section for purely Technomate and as its a Linux based box i thought it was a good section to aim at. As I am not an expert on this equipment it would be better if you could speak in laymans terms as I havent a clue what you are talking about in the the last part of your post. Not heard of any local based dx-tv forums. Other people in Spain use these cards in so I dont think its the location thats the problem. The 800hd is advertised as been capable of accepting this type of card. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
dunno.. I don't have one because I live in a tower block in the uk.. and dishes aren't allowed. Your best bet is in the digital tv forums or the specialist sites that deal with these boxes. y'know.. the card issuers are playing a game of chase all the time with the box makers and hackers. Something which somebody said worked a month ago doesn't necessarily work this week.. especially if the card is a new issue. I'll admit this isn't my area of interest.. I do dx-tv at uhf (not digital) and years and years ago some satellite from astra and the russian sources.. try here..
