i did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 and installed properly. the problem i have is the screen blanks and then the bios screen comes up, which means it just cuts out on me. does anyone know what this problem is? i had to go back to 11.04 because of this and i dont have the problem with this release.

11.10 is broken from reports around.. others are reporting the same problem.. nothing wrong with 11.04 at all.. except the junk desktop implementation.. Latest I run on anything (works lappy) is 10.04 for this (and wireless capabilities anywhere) reason alone.
There are good reasons to avoid cutting edge anything.. and this is one of those reasons..

Not so much a reason to avoid cutting edge, more a reason to avoid distros headed by a dictator: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/882274
