can anyone please help me I just bought my daughter an old imac g4 brought it home and everything was working perfectly connected to the internet not a bother. she then tried to connect her ipod but because the operating systems were different she could not connect. Thinking of myself being marvellous I found a disk from my macbook with mac os 10.5.2 0n it so I decided in my wisdom that I would throw this into the cd and off we go. To my horror and to my daughters we are now just staring at a file on start up please help us i am feeling really guilty about it now :(

Thats awkward.. the simple facts are.. you don't have enough whack to run 10.5.x on that old G4 .. However.. You CAN make bootable install disks to install the older OS.. thn again

What happens if you hold down "command+R" while booting?

ok.. seems like you have kinda killed it.. you will have to go looking for an older version osx.. plenty floating around.. and make some bootable disks..

I can't link to any.. "piracy and all that".. but google is a goldmine.. You can also run older bsd-unix on it with no problems at all.. and a lot of ppc linux versions.. legally.

what I really need to know to help you get it up and running again is a lot more about the internals.. there are 500 zillion !imac g4's" from 700mhz-128 ram to 2 ghz-500 ram boxes out there.. all different when it comes to installing and what they will run..

I reckon you could install 10.4.. but as I said before.. on your own finding it and making a bootable disk.. otherwise.. http://www.podnutz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3772

Hi.. I'm not getting that involved.. finding the sources will lead to instructions on creating a bootable disk from them :)
