I have a 15" macbook pro, bought about 2 years ago and it randomly enters sleep mode. it happens whether connected to power or not and usually when being moved. it occasionly rewakes when pressing a key or 2 but tends to react better when the sensors at the side of the computer are covered.

ive asked in the apple store but the 'genious' didnt really have a clue what it could be and said its probably something to do with the logic board and it would cost about £700 to repair, i obviously may aswell spend a little extra if this is the case and buy a new one!

has anyone else experienced this or have a clue what could be the issue

    cheers

Just a guess.. it has a "sleep" or "hibernate" mode which comes in when the screen is closed while powered on?

bad connection in that somewhere? if it's on a switch or light sensor of some kind those mechanical parts are always suspect.

see if there is a way to kill the sleep/suspend/hibernate function in the controls anywhere
