I've been have this problem for some time now. My pc with south on me so I am using my sisters pc. She wanted me to fix it for her. Well some stuff went wrong with it. So I had to re-install windows xp professional. On it well ever since then I've been gettin the message below. Well Now I figured out how to fix it for the mean time. But everytime I restart my pc for like updates I have to go threw the long process of fixing it. And I'm tired of doing that. So I'm wondering if someone can help me fix it. Cause I've tryed but can't seem to do it. I've tryed remaking the boot.ini file but everytime i restart it's gone and have to rebuild it. So any help would be greatly appreciated>
download the free "paragon rescue kit 9.0 express" bootcd. That cd will will let you modify the boot.ini without loading windows. The missing hal error, sometimes occurs on dual boots, or multiple partition hard drives. Also try doing a chkdsk c: /f , see if that can fix your problem.
Put in the disc and choose to repair an installation. Startup troubleshooting should be one of the first options you see.
