I took out the hard drive of one laptop with Windows XP, and I tried to boot it through a USB HDD case on another laptop through bios. It started out fine, but it then said, "Sorry for the inconvenience, but windows could not boot. . ." I can access the files from this hard drive through My Computer, but I can't use the Windows XP on it to boot up my computer. What am I doing wrong?

    I have been searching forever.

if both laptops are different then windows will not boot off external hd. same will happen if hard drive off a desktop is used to try to boot a totally different desktop pc.

Thank you very much. I guess I can just use it to store files on and what not.
