Apoligies in advance to the Mods if this topic is in the wrong place but my problem is more to do with the laptop's network settings than the xbox360..

Originally I had my xbox360 connected to my tower(xp home) which worked very well, I could access photo's, music, vids and of course connect to xbox live through my tower with a wireless pci card which picked up the wireless signal from the router downstairs.

Sadly my tower needs repairing so in the towers place I have connected my laptop (vista pre) in exactly the same way.
    Xbox360 -> ethernet wire(came with the xbox360) -> tower/laptop.
Then I bridge the connections and hey presto £50 saved by not having to buy an xbox wireless adaptor.

My problem is that it does work with my vista laptop but its not a stable connection, I can access the photo's ect so it connects to the laptop just fine but when I log into xbox live to play COD it will work for a match or two with a full signal bar but the connection stops working.

All I do to fix it is repair the connection through the xbox options and it will work again...I just don't get why it works for a short time then goes off?!

I'd be gratfull for any help.

    General Info>
    --------------
Both xbox and the laptop's network settings are configured to auto when selecting ip address ect.
I have unchecked ipv6 to see if that worked but it didn't (have ticked it back since)
When the connection on the xbox goes the laptop can still surf the web with no problems

why not just get a router as would be a lot easier for access?

I do have a router, it's downstairs as I mentioned on the second sentence.

Cant move it because its connected to my isp's modem.(which is in the livingroom)
I could move the xbox downstairs and have a direct connection with the modem but my girlfriend might have something to say about that, or I could even get a really long ethernet cable but that will be alot of messing about.

I got it working with xp so I'l be more persistant in configuring it for vista

Hurray!! my persistance paid off...I have it working flawlessly, I Played MW2 for several hours without a single problem and with a full signal bar.

If anyone wants to know how just give us a pm but for now this thread has closure.

Really not too sure what the problem is. I would try setting the 360 and tower to have a static ip.

My 360 had issues with dhcp and wouldn't give it an address within the correct range, so I just made everything static.
