It is definatly an eide type. with that said I am trying to find the cheapest way of getting the information off the hard drive.

Is the vantec usb adapter hard to use?

I mean can I just plug it in and take the information off the drive and then thats it?

    Thanks for the help

The vantec would work, when you plug your drive to it, it turns it into a USB external drive. When you plug it into a USB port it will show up as an external drive, I use mine for almost 3 years and it never fails to recognize a drive. I paid about 20.00 for mine, but there are other places that sale something similar for under 10.00.

This is a generic ide 2.5/3.5 only (no sata), I bought a couple of these and they work great too.

And then there is the option of buying a 2.5 ide external enclosure and just sticking the drive in it. Most cost under 20.00.

Before you buy that thing... are you saying the hard drive is dead? If so, this device won't help any.

What kind of problems are you having with it?
