Hello, Longtime reader, first time poster. I managed to get a virus on my computer that tried to disguse itself as a virus scanner and get me to buy software. I've had it twice before and used malwarebytes to remove it. It seems the virus has evolved and would not let me boot malwarebytes to remove it. I searched around the internet and found a program called Avira Rescue system. It had me create a cd on another computer and boot the infected laptop from the cd. I ran it's scanner and followed the directions, and now when I boot my computer it pops up a box to login with my profile and asks for a password. I tried all of the generic stuff for passwords and nothing worked. So I ran a windows recovery. That brought back the normal login screen for windows where it has me choose my profile, but when I clock on the profile it tries to log me on, then after about 15 seconds it says logging off and I am still at the same screen. Is there anyway to fix this? I would prefer not to have to wipe the hard drive and start fresh, as most of my data is backed up but not all of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
1. Press F8 on system startup and choose safe mode. 2. Copy your files to safe. 3. Reinstall Windows. Works? Next time use HijackThis log and send it to proper area..
try this bootcd, it will reset all the passwords, maybe it can let you log back on. Even when I install windows without a password, it sometimes will tell me my password has expired and won't log me on. This bootcd has always fix that problem. http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
