    Ok
a little history, 200gb hdd split into 2 a long while ago. WINXP installed to both (original "C" partition for backups, no web use).
I have now installed WIN 7 Ultimate 64 on what I thought was the "C" drive. Everything is now backed up on my laptop so a'm willing to have a bash at anything. What i am looking to do is to repartition the drive75/25 to have a play with linux.BUT AND A BIG BUT i can no longer boot in to XP to do anything, Somewhere along the way I have totally srcewed up. All I want to do now is format the XP partition, shrink it down and let WIN7 have the rest.
In disc manager win7 is "C" and XP is"D" but in the boot manager screen at start up XP is shown as "unknown os/ on drive C".
1.how do I format the right drive?
    2. how do I reconfigure my partition?

Ive just read this back to myself, LOL, so I'll understand if there's a lot of questions

    Many thanks Mick

I've found this freeware program extremely usefull when naming partitions in the vista/win7 boot loader. It also can help say which drive is the boot partition, etc.
