problem with licence

    hi i have a toshiba laptop which basically died
    i didnt have a recovery disc so have managed to get hold of a vista cd
    it is working fine but i would like to be able to change the product key back to my original one.
    only problem is it was oem
    my product key stated xxxxx-oem-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
    is there any way i can get hold of my original product key to that was installed

    did your hd crap out on you as it most likely had a 2nd partition which you could have done a system recovery back to factory defaults? check underneath laptop as usually a label there with windows' product key on it.

    tried the system recovery before i put a fresh install on it but it didnt work

    edit your previous post instead of posting back to back as per forum rules. why didn't the system recovery not system restore work, what did it say?
