Technical Difficulties need help

Ok, my laptop is broken which runs in Vista's. Every program on my laptop now runs as notepad, and it says "this program cannot run in DOS mode. How do I fix this? The reason it lead up to this im guessing is that when I installed this game, it asked for a graphics resolution thingy, which I dont know why. After that message came up then some other error messages came up as well. I looked on my desktop and every file looks like the notepad and says the same thing if i try to open them. Can anyone help me? Ive tried everything, system recovery doesnt work either. And I want to try everything b4 i do a system reboot.
