how do you know its working properly if it doesnt show up in windows?

go to control panel >> administrative tools >> Computer managment >> disk managment

report back if drive shows up there and what it says about it

Yeah, try the process of elimination by trying it on another computer. If it works on another computer, the problem is your desktop computer, and maybe the USB slots are disabled or not working correctly, or theres another problem with your system.

occasionally i use the drive on my mums computer which is running windows xp and it doesnt always show up on her computer.
