I have lived by ddp's list of scanners for years and years and I'm looking for an update because They failed me. I ran a program new to me called Malwarebytes and it found some entries and removed my problem.
The old list from 2005 is in this thread.

ddp If you read this please post an updated list of what you are using these days.
Thank you so much

my advice is use sandboxie or returnil when you surf the internet and you will never get your hard drive infected.
my security setup
1. zone alarm firewall
2. avira free antivirus
3. firefox browser
4. sandboxie or returnil (both free)
virtual/sandbox type software is the only 100 percent way of keeping you PC clean. In 3 years that I have use this type of setup, I have never been compromised.
Usually your antivirus will warn you about a suspect file but if somethings slips through your defenses, it won't make through a virtual/sandbox unless you let it.

Do you not use malwarebytes at all ?
I have found it to be really useful running after combofix to pick up strays

interesting comparison of a PROFESSIONALS security recommendations compared to a blatant amateur.. avira is hopeless antivirus.. came below nortton even in last years testing.. and that's an achievement.. ClamWIN came top (clamav for numptys)
and some crap to guarantee you back up your already corrupted system..
All I can add.. yup.. malwarebytes.. very good.. BUT .. you want to keep microcrap garbage safe on the internet?.. ONLY use it offline.. that's the ONLY way to secure the trash.

Don’t know where you get your info, Scum……..
Free Antivirus Review, by Erik Larkin, PC World August 24, 2009
ClamWin Free Antivirus stands apart from other free antivirus software because it's open-source, with no proprietary or commercial aspects. But in the essential task of blocking malware, it doesn't get the job done.
ClamWin doesn't provide real-time protection, and it won't check files as you open them or have them written to your hard drive; its scans are on-demand only, which means they kick off when you schedule them or specifically tell the program to run one.
If its scans were effective, ClamWin might have been a worthwhile pick as an extra security layer to catch files that your regular antivirus utility might have missed. Unfortunately, It missed almost half of the Trojan horses, password stealers, and other baddies in AV-Test.org's zoo of malware samples, an ignominious performance matched only by PC Tools Antivirus. Against malware made to steal online-banking passwords, it was nearly impotent, missing more than two-thirds of such samples. In proactive tests meant to find how well a program can detect new malware, it did better, nabbing roughly one-third of the samples while using two-week-old signature files (top performer Avira AntiVir Personal caught just over half). But that still wasn't a satisfactory result by any means.
Its six false positives were more than the amount from any other free antivirus software save for Comodo Internet Security (which had an astonishing 62). It was the second-slowest app in on-demand scanning--only PC Tools Antivirus had slower scan times--and it put up the worst numbers for disinfection, detecting only six out of ten infections and cleaning only five. In a rare shining performance, it identified all ten active rootkits (stealth malware designed to hide other infections). In contrast, however, it did the worst job of removing those rootkits, cleaning up just four.
The app's basic interface lists your hard drives and allows for scheduling regular scans, but you'll need to schedule a separate scan for each drive. ClamWin also adds a right-click Explorer option to scan a specific file, but such scans are notably slow, and by default it only reports discovered malware; to get an option to clean it, you must change the settings to quarantine or delete the file.
Although running an extra on-demand scan can be good as backup for your regular antivirus application, ClamWin's poor detection rate means that you are better off running an online scan from a commercial software maker, such as BitDefender or F-Secure, and avoiding this open-source project.

Sorry to drag you back here ddp But I had to thank you again,
Your system has helped me my family and fiends for years.
This system would save people major money and problems if they just looked for it.
I don't see how so many people find the need for places like geek squad when there's an Afterdawn.Thank you everyone

LOL, I tried to retire 20years ago and am still knocking down 40+ hours a week as the IP guy for a hotel chain… in my spare time I build computers.. Guess I’ll retire when someone pats me on the belly with a shovel.. lol
Haven’t been on AD much lately but it’s about the same except I see scum and jony are suspended and guess everyone will miss the comments from the peanut gallery but just wait, they’ll be b a c k. Lol
Trying out a computer that I built for one of my co-workers and it’s a done deal. He wanted a Hot Rod Surfer and Word Processor for under $300 so, Mini tower, Gigabyte micro ATX Mobo, Athalon II 250 x2 core, 4GB DDR2 800 ram, 650GB HD, OC’d to 3.8GH and Temp is holding at 51c under full load. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and Office 2007. It’s plenty snappy…..
