I am currently working on my nephews comp...it has a Samsung 150gb hd and it's currently partitioned as C drive...3.65gb and D drive 145gb my question is: Is it possible to increase the size allocated to C drive to a reasonable figure (anything would be better than the present) and if so how would I go about it.....As always I thank you in anticipation, Cheers.
yes it can be down. hello gwen. use partition magic or something similar to do that. why was c:drive partitioned at 3.65gig?
Thanks for the reply ddp, I have no idea as to why it's been partitioned, I thought it had 2 hds until I took the case off...off to work now so will check out your recommendations later this arvo, Cheers
Make sure you use a "image backup" software to make an image backup of your c: partition before you do any modifications. Save this backup on a external drive or a blank dvd since it looks like it will fit on it. Macrium reflect is a free image backup software. I have tried to enlarge partitions (some succesful) before where the software hanged during the task, this will render the drive unbootable.
Alas, it gets worse...he has Windows PC Defender on the comp...it's like one of my kids...doesnt want to leave. How do I get this rogue prog off the comp...I am at my wits end. Cheers.
moved to correct forum. check this link out. http://www.411-spyware.com/remove-windows-pc-defender#how-to-remove
A free partitioning tool is GParted it's a live cd with an easy GUI, if you want an installer type partition program then link below,it works ok & is pretty much based on PM 8.0 (partition magic),it's free (actually it should run from cd also i think).Ok next thing is don't merge partitions it's a bad idea, safest way is to save data in the larger partition then delete it & resize C,then recreate data partition, you could just resize C however but it will take longer & if you have a power out or some sort of comp failure you'd need to use getdataback to retrieve any data since the partition tables will be stuffed http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm Edt: when i say just resize c i mean just that,it will automatically resize the data partition so C becomes larger, the hassle with that is the data in the larger partition needs to be moved hence why it takes bloody ages
Thanks for your responses, I located a prog called Exterminate it that got rid of PC Defender and then used partition magic to complete the original task of increasing partition...excellent results.....sorry I havent replied sooner but work has kept me away from comp...Cheers and thanks again.
