hi guys, i bought a laptop a few months ago of a friend who got it of a friend of a friend. this laptop was originally on xp an then upgraded to vista. i really hate vista and have had so many problems in past with it, so my another friend gave me an xp pro disk but after the setup starts it says --setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer-- anyone know how i can get past this
Setup disk probably doesnt have SATA drivers that I'm assuming is your hard drive interface. this was a common problem for people that had their machines shipped with Vista that wanted to upgrade (backgrade?) to XP. Check this website. http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slipstream-sata-drivers-into-xp-cd/
You are welcome! If you have problems, just post because I or someone else will try to help get your machine up and running!

Glad things are going, hard part is done! You said something about your drivers did you find yellow question marks in your device manager? Do you have any yellow question marks showing? here is a guide that shows how to get into your manager and look for missing drivers. use the first three steps to find devices and then look and see if you have any question marks. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/support/driver.mspx
