    Hi guy's,

just wondering if any of you could recommend a good proven software for retrieving deleted photo's from a memory card ?

Basically the father in law hit the delete all button on his Nikon Camera and deleted some very memorable photo's from throughout the year. He doesn't have any backup's as he's just recently got a pc for the first time in his life so it's just a learning process to him at the minute.

I've got the card from him and I must have tried roughly 9 different software but none will find anything at all.
I've used some recovery software from Hirens boot cd and the Active@boot disk cd too but no joy.
I've also tried others too but they are finding zilch!

So just wondering if any of you guy's might have been in a similar situation and had some success ?

    All suggestion's appreciated :)

Thanks for that list ddp I'm going to spend some time now and see if I can hopefully salvage something.

Just one other thing I want to ask is, when I put the MMC card in my laptop running windows 7 it say's the file system of the card is FAT 16, but when I have it in my pc where it is right now it show the file system as RAW.

Don't know if the above makes any differance but I'm sure the software will have options to select what file system to choose but I just don't remember RAW being an option for any of the ones I tried last night so I just went with the FAT 16.

Anyway, thanks again for the links and I'll post back either way, and fingers crossed it could be good news :)

I'm currently scanning but still no luck.

Just thinking could this be an issue, after he deleted or formatted his stick, not sure what way he did it, he actually took about 8 other photo's to the stick and all the softwares that I'm using is finding the 8 photo's that's currenly on the stick but is just not finding anything else.

Maybe by taking the other photo's onto the stick it messed up the chances of recovering ?

try using testdisk (photrec addon) that can retrieve data from a corrupt (raw) media.

Don't worry, most of your your pictures should all still be there, I've had cards that still had pictures from years ago still on them even though I formatted and reuse the cards again. Even if new picture where taken, that will only overwrite a particular area of the card, the rest of the card will still be recoverable.

The only way that the data might be completely gone is if they use some secure reformatting software that writes multiple passes on the card. Most people don't use that type of software.

Hey thanks guy's for the help and suggestions but I've just about given up.

I tried all suggested but still nothing and I also tried some expensive software like "Recover my files" and some of "Disk Doctors" software too but still nothing.

Seems if he wouldn't have taken anymore photo's after the format they could have been recovered but as there was more data put on the card it seems they can't be recovered now.

Again, thanks for the dig out guy's ;)
