mIRC keeps on disconnecting during download

Hey, everytime I try to download a file on mIRC, a few minutes into the download the speed decreases to 0 kb/s, and I am disconnected.
When this happens, I cannot connect to the internet and it seems like my connection is just dead. But, when I restart my computer, everything is fine again and I can reconnect to mIRC and resume the download.
But what I want to know is why I keep getting disconnected every few minutes during the download? Thanks for any help

dodgy download????virus????spyware???trogans???someone manually hacking your computer and high jacking your internet through the download???

Been a few years since I used Mirc and don't remember losing the internet but my downloads disconnected every time unless I manually accepted the first download, after that, it was automatic. Also, clicking on IRC in the left menu opened options on the right. I had Rejoin channel when kicked, Rejoin channels on connect and Keep channels open checked.
