Hey I just upgrade from my old Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate. It ran perfectly fine until I let the Windows automatic updates install. Now it crashes at my log in screen everytime I turn it on. I get a blue screen, telling me the memory is dumping, then it shuts down, and tries to start back up. I can open in safe mode fine and after running a System Restore Point, I am able to get back onto fine. But even if i shut down instantly... not changing anything and try to start back up.... Bluescreened again. In Event Viewer I get a few critical errors that are listed only when it has BSOD on me. The main one being a Kernel-Power Error. "Log Name: System Source: Kernel-Power Event ID: 41 Level: Critical User: SYSTEM OpCode: Info Logged: 11/19/2009 10:45:47 PM Task Category: (63) Keywords: (2) "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." I have read quit a few threads saying something about Windows 7 running some files in kernel mode differently than XP and might be conflicting but have been known to be fixed in bios updates. Any more info needed I will gladly post, I'm just not sure where to go from here :\
You need to remove the advertising link from your signature. Have you tried a clean install or installing without Windows Updates ?. I personally don't/won't ever use Auto Updates, not since XP first came out and not in the future..
Sorry about the signature. Fixed. And I never really have done auto updates before but I guess I could reinstall everything. Just trying to see if there was a way i could possibly fix it without having to. Theres alot of stuff I didnt wanna have to back up but I guess i dont have a choice lol.
Thanks. I don't know if you could fix Win7 by trying to restore restore points or running a repair via the DVD as i've done neither. I've never been hacked and in all the years since the internet began and BBS'es before that i've only ever had one virus, a minor one many years ago. So my point is do you actually need the Updates ?.. I'm vehemently against MS's Auto Updates but i appreciate that other people do use them and don't feel as strongly as me. I just won't allow DRM or other such things on my machines All i can suggest is to try googling.
I have done the system restore and it'll allow me to log on but as soon as it shuts down and tries to relog itll bsod. I can keep system restoring but thats a pain. The bsod stayed up long enough for me to see its a registry error. but thats all I got outta it.
Have you check the recent updates that have been installed recently? It sounds as though a component may be receiving a driver update that is incompatible. Have you downloaded all of the updated drivers for your hardware? Also, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback. you probably have found your answer by now, but most comp. that have windows xp arent new enough to run windows 7 sad but true it mostly has to do with your devices and them updating like he said ^ some need to be updated and others cant update cuz you'll end up with the b.s.o.d. while i had problems with just a flash drive (ready boost) and a new monitor for my laptop (grapihc issues) to a g-link on my desktop. it gets frustrating but microsoft and other companys are coming out with more and more updates everyday to make things compatilble
