k sorry for the spelling but i bought a my pc and it has windows7 of course and i play a game not compatible with 64 bit so i was just wandering if there is a program that is easy to use that could partition say 50 gb of 750 and have a 32 bit os on it and just boot in to that one when i want to play my game with out erasing my whole system and if i can how would i choose which os to boot from k thanx guys hope it will work ps if i used my windows disc to create a new would it wipe the cpu
first make a image backup of your hard drive. Macrium reflect is a good free backup software. Anytime you resize your system partition, you run the risk of making it unbootable. Next use a partition software to resize your c: drive. Easus partition 5.0 pro is a free software that works on windows 7 64, but there are other software available including linux livecds that can partition drives. It's best to use a bootcd, easus will let you make one. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=264942 It would be a good idea to partition your drive in 3 ways 100gb for seven, 50gb for the other 32 bit OS, and the remainder space for a data storage. This way if you ever have to reinstall seven, you can do it without deleting your valuable data. Next you will install the new OS, windows will dual boot it. During bootup, it gives you 5 seconds to choose which OS to boot.
k how many dvds will it take to make a back up of my pc it is still pretty much straight out of the box and can you explain how i should partition it 100gb and 50gb and then just do nothing to the rest or what i am just a little confused about that thx again for your help
depends how much "use" data is in the drive. The imaging software will make a compressed backup file of the drive. For instance if your 750gb drive has only 20gb of data, the backup file will be about 15gb. It's best to save the backup file onto an external drive instead of blank dvd's. The partition software will show you a block of your drive. In it's current configuration it will just be a large 750gb block. From here you will resize it making it smaller (move it all the way forward) to about 100gb. Once it's complete you'll have a smaller partition of 100gb and 650gb of empty space, next create a new partition of 50gb out of the empty space and use all remaining empty space as a data partition. When finish you will have 3 partitions, each with it's own drive letter. As a test I decided to resize a 200gb hard drive (80gb in use) into 2 partitions (30gb and 170gb) using easus partition 5.0 pro. It took about 3 hours and the operation was successful. This wasn't a boot drive and I did the test from within windows xp onto a drive that I slaved in. This is the first time I actually used this version of easus and it went fairly easy. I also ran another test on 2 system hard drives using the easus bootcd this time. Both bootdrives on 2 computers where 20gb, I wanted to increase them to 30gb. First you need to make the partition next to the boot partition smaller (make sure the empty space is next to the boot partition). This process takes 2-3 hours depending on the data on the other partition. Once that is complete resize your boot partition into the empty space, this process is quick less than 5 minutes. Both bootdrives are now larger and I didn't suffer any lost data or errors.
