Heya there Decided to log on here after years of being inactive.. and it seems as though this is place is pretty much dead, any oldies still on here? I hardly see any new posts Brings a tear to my eye, this place was so full of action at one point.
yay pepsi .. still lurking about, but the stupid site crashes my browser every other page change (only site that does this.. tried working it out.. admins don't give a fusk.. their loss in the end.. MANY people who don't use ff or ie report same problem to me) very few left from the old days.. most have moved on.. i have pretty much
As far as video (movies) it's gasping for air - but so are the other video-centric sites. VideoHelp is way down (but still no spam). VirtualDub.org is coughing up blood. Doom9 has a steady client base - but that site gives the air of requiring you to know the answer before posting anyway. AD has one advantage over them inasmuch as it also caters to the Console fans - which leaves me out as my last game was Parsec on a TI-99 simulator The main indicator for me was when the Nero salt mines closed up;a sure indicator that backing up DVD's was being tossed out the window - sadly,Windows isn't.
Digital Digest used to be a pretty big competitor of aD back in the day too and it's gone the same way. They were a bit more techy/uptight than over here. I think AfterDawn probably still has a pretty decent active user base, there is just very little getting said users involved. It doesn't help that the forums are a mess, even if they're not too active - most of them need consolidating in to more general forums, some just need straight up deleting, the archived forums need to be moved and the layout as you browse down is horrible. I dread to think how much time/potentially money they wasted translating the site into other languages only recently too. I imagine the ad revenue is still pretty decent though, and that's likely all that they are concerned with.
Makes sense to me - as nice as it is having bespoke software, it's probably an expensive headache to maintain and upgrade. Moving to something like that will probably make your life easier too (not that I know much about the mod tools on aD's current software). Would help with the spam. Hopefully they'll overhaul the layout etc too while they're at it.
AD is to awesome to go away!!! As long as it dose not get bought out like gamepoltics was it should stay awesome!
It's been pretty much the same configuration for the past 5 years, with some meagre, yet useful improvements.
Fair enough; I know that I said it would be an improvement but it's essentially flogging a dead horse.
