Over the last century, many advancements in labor have eliminated the need for some or all of the workers who once did the labor. An increase in "desk jobs" has done some to combat this, but many of these jobs have been moved overseas where labor is extremely cheap...a move that many corporations are legally required to make (it is US law that a corporation must serve their stockholders before their community, their workers, their government, or even the other laws of the united states).

Now we begin to enter a new age of outsourcing. In this age, workers are digital, and they use less space and power than a conventional worker. In addition, they work for free...so there is no reason to keep paying those starvation wages in third world countries...and even less reason to pay minimum wage in the states. Across the world, there will be a huge loss of jobs over the course of about a decade. Only "professional" jobs such as lawyers and doctors will remain, and as technology keeps evolving, even these jobs will be obsolete within 20 years of the first human simulation call center.

It would be nice to think that humans would live on the shoulders of robots, and we would all live in a perfect world where no one has to work, starve, or do anything that they don't want to do. However, these technologies will not be owned by idealist communists...they will be owned by capitalists that have already shown themselves to care nothing for their own workers, let alone the community.

As these corporations take all there is to take, they will eventually come to the inevitable conclusion that anyone who has not already starved to death is a worthless expense to the state...as state paid for entirely by the corporation(s), and run by politicians put in power by the same corporation(s). Assistance programs (now the only source of food to most people) will be cut back year by year, and this will result in a downturn in population sizes, and an excuse to cut assistance all the more. Before long, the population of the earth will drop so low that there will be only a few hundred thousand people left on earth...a tiny hand full living like kings, the rest tending the machines...and living like rats, for fear that asking for food would cause their jobs to be taken by machines as well. Eventually, their fears will come true, and the only ones remaining will be a few thousand people at the top...that is when the machine revolution will come.

Ok, so the ending is a bit sci-fi; but everything up to the last paragraph seems to already be set in stone.

machines&robots arnt perfect they can only be programed to do something or things.they don't feel emotions so they dont commit suicide or complain.it would be good if you could have a robot wake you up in the morning, feed the pets, wash the dishes, take the rubbish out and wipe the table but then again people need someone to talk to.someone to hang out with.someone to argue with.it sux that people will lose there jobs and have robots replace them but its up to the people and the government to make sure people have enough food/heathcare and have a decent quality of life. The rich need to help the poor and there wouldn't be as many poor people.barack obama is flys around in a multi million dollar aircraft and some people in america can't even afford food.thats a major problem right there.if the rich lived an average life instead of a spoilt life and helped the poor live an average life we wouldnt have a problem.

Nevermind the rich living to lower standards; these people have billions more than they could ever spend, and they continue to exploit the weak to make a few bucks more. That is how power works...you always want more...and money is power.

Money is a means to power, just like fear and Deceit. Robots can be programed to perform tasks mundane or not. the more advanced robots become the more unreliable they become. someone would need to perform maintenance/Software updates the tech has the real power. not the money grubbing slime balls.

Knowledge and the ability to apply/understand it, that is true power. all else falls short.

If you are trying to calm my nerves about the coming robot army by reassuring me that the order to not kill humans might be glitchy, I'm afraid you didn't help.

My concern is not the robots, but what they will be used to do. Yes, a few techs will be working on them, but their actual power will be minimal once everyone else looses their job, and the line to apply for one maintanance job is 20 miles long.

don't worry skynet hasnt started making robots yet.1 day they will have robots with artificial intelligence but until that happens were all safe.it would be good if we could use robots for peace keeping missions and stuff but unless we can program them to tell the difference between good and bad (which we can't) and it probably wont happen for a few hundred years.

Sounds like a basis for a pretty awesome film.
