Halo 3: splitscreen with 3 players (glitch or design?)

    Why can't I play Halo 3 in campaign mode with 3 players? I can play 2 player and I don't know about 4. I can play other modes with 3 player, but not campaign. I'd like to kill aliens with BOTH of my Son's :)
    Is this a glitch or be design?
