Hello everyone. I just found this forum and it seems to be one of the best out there for just about everything you can think of. I just purchased a cyclods and was trying to create backup copies of my movies and put them on the cyclods. I'm using DVDShrink3.2, VOBMerge and Xilisoft DPG Converter. I get all the way through DVDShrink and re-author just the main movie and my audio files. I don't add any of the extras or any of the main menu. When I backup and finish with DVDShrink, I use VOBMerge to merge the VTS files and it seems that everything is fine. I even downloaded VLC media player to make sure that everything worked and it plays the movies without a problem. Here is my problem. When I go to convert the file with Xilisoft DPG Converter, I select the .vob file to convert to .dpg and it goes through the entire process. The two movies I have tried to covert are as follows with results. The Incredibles - Final dpg file was 290MB, so I transfered to my cyclo opened up moonshell 1.71 and selected the movie. I got blue screen on upper lcd of ds with final message of memory overflow, can not create FrameCache Buffers. So I pulled up the movie in xilisoft and it was 6 hours long with only audio, black screen. Ice Age - Same process only this time, when I was done with the conversion, for some reason I only had the director's commentary and the file was only 7 mins long. I thought maybe I selected the wrong file on DVD shrink, so I did it again. Made sure to select Title1 from Main Movie section, merged the files, watched the full movie with VLC media player, so I know I had the movie downloaded. But, again when I went to convert the file I got the same outcome. If anyone knows what I may be doing wrong or if there is something that I am not doing in the process please let me know. If you have any questions or want more info please let me know. Sorry for this being so long, I'm just really frustrated because we are going to be going on a road trip and I want to have movies that my kids can watch while we are on the road. And I've been at this for the last couple of days with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
OK, this is not an answer to your problem, but seriously, do you want your kids staring at a 2" video screen for the length of a movie? I have a 7 yr. old and I will not put clips longer than 30 min on there for him. I never let him play for more than 1 hour at a time without a 5 min. break. $70.00 for a portable DVD player with 2 headphone jacks might be a better investment. As far as converting DVD to MPEG goes, it is a time consuming process. I use DVD Decrypter and Super and it comes out OK but there is a lag between the Audio and Video that gets progressively worse throughout the movie. Kittymat's guide might help you. http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-176/dvd_mpeg_to_dpg_suggestions_to_overcome_audio_lag-785045/
Um........Okay.....lol. While I agree that a dvd player is easier to see, I know that my son loves to have movies on his ds. Here's what I do, I have dvdfab platinum and it has a setting right on it to rip from dvd's to nds format. I pair it with a program called DVD Region+CSS Free (for dvd's that you own, of course). It's Super easy, they sync up just fine, takes less than half an hour and they look great. I highly recommend it. And just a heads up, wiiso.com has a lot of good "help" for all of this sort of thing too. Good Luck!
