ive looked in a few threads and found most of the info i need except for a few things, like the ds i want to work on i havent seen yet its a friends and i have no idea how its classified , if a buy an r4 does it matter what ds it is? and also can i buy any r4? ive seen 4 different ones also i read the biggest micro sd that would work was 2gig is that the same or did it change please let me know thanks
Don't buy an R4. Don't buy anything with R4 in it's name. There was a time when the R4 was the best card out there, but copycats released cheap low-quality clones and rebranded cheaper cards and drove the real R4's out of business. There are currently 20+ different flashcarts that use the R4 name of varying quality and it is impossible to know which one you're getting. Anyway, if the DS in question is an original or DSlite then go with the M3 Real or CycloDS. Pay attention to the packaging on the M3. It will have a website printed on it that should read m3adapter.com. There are clones of the M3 that say m3adaptes.com instead. Avoid those. If the DS is a DSi then go with an M3iZero or an Acekard2i.

Dude, are you comprehending anything that you are reading? Flashcarts are standalone devices. Modding (or altering in any way, shape or form) the DS to play ROMs hasn't been required in several years. Some games need to be patched but that has nothing to do with the DS, and that's just the way that it is. If you're looking for idiot proof, nothing is idiot proof.
