Hey AD My girlfriend just bought a legitimate (so far) R4 for DS. Came with the USB (with SD card slot) and the R4 card itself. I followed this thread's basic guideline (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/627024), and was able to drag-drop files from Winrar into the filename "English" Problem is, the files _DS_MENU.DAT and _DS_MSHL.NDS are showing up as Unknown Files. I don't have a program to open them, and their icon is just a simple Windows icon. I've clicked them to try and find a program to open them and can't find a thing. Admittedly I'm not the most experienced computer user, so a little Layman's advice would be appreciated. Why are the files that I'm supposed to drag-drop ROMs into showing up as Unknown files? Is there a way to change them into usable files? Any questions, please ask. Extra info: _system_ and moonshl are there, along with the MENU and MSHL files. I downloaded version 1.14, when that failed I also tried 1.15, 1.16, and finally 1.17. My girlfriend tried 1.18, and the MENU & MSHL files didn't even show up after I extracted the whole thing on Winrar. Help is very appreciated, thanks people.

If you have a folder named English on the SD card that's probably why it doesn't work. You should have the following in the root directory. _system_ --> Folder moonshl --> Folder _DS_MENU.DAT -->File _DS_MSHL.NDS --> File "Is there a way to change them into usable files? " Of course NOT. The files are only usable on the R4. Suggestions 1. Verify which of the 25+ variants of R4 that you have. 2. Download the correct kernel software for YOUR R4 3. Put the extracted files from the archive into the ROOT directory of the microSD card 4. Don't expect these files to be usable on anything other than the R4 flashcart that they were designed for.
