R4i with NDS

Hey guys.
I bought one of these:
http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/
The red box r4i v1.4.1
On the box it says it works with ndsi/ndsl/nds
Now I understand from this it will work with a standard NDS but is the firmware the same? as in does the firmware work with both ndsi and nds? Or are there two different firmwares with different consoles.
