I have come to understand that my Nintendo DSI can connect to my router(via WPA) but when I try to connect with my game Pokemon SoulSilver it states that the connection is not compatible do to it being WPA.

I have heard the only solution is change the router security from WPA to WEP but I consider such a move too risky as it may interfere with the other wireless devices connected to the router.

Anyone have a alternative solution to my problem?

WEP for ds cartridge games WPA for anything else, set it up on basic and advanced on WEP, FOR EXTRA SECURITY use MAC filtering you can also limit the number of IP addresses to devices. i gave each device a static IP address and blocked the rest along with MAC filtering you should be ok. or a usb dongle to connect the ds to the pc, the pc will have to be on all the time the ds is online (waist of electricity if you ask me + wear and tear on pc)
