Site update - March 16th 2010

AfterDawn.com has been updated! In addition to renewing the layout of the site we have also speeded up things considerably. The new version has been tested on our Finnish site for several months, and during the testing we have managed to improve the new version even further.

You can now enjoy this new layout at English AfterDawn.com and English Discussion Forums as well! We have also introduced new sections to the site, and re-arranged things a bit.

I've opened ports on my router, however, my torrent speed is still pretty bad. what can i do?

#1 13 Jan 2010 @ 16:35
Ive opened ports on my router for Utorrent, yet i still have a pretty bad DL speed, i can't understand why to be honest, so if any one has suggestions then shoot away :)
thanks.

Make sure the port is over 10,000, disable UPnP (options>preferences>connection), is your upload set to about 80% at options>speed guide (speedtests may show kb, utorrent uses kB, 1 kB = 8 kb). Is it possible your ISP throttles, some here: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs Does port check show ok?
#3 14 Jan 2010 @ 13:50
I have the same problem. you said that the port is over 10,000. you mean we set the port to 10,000?
a guy tell me the port set to 45682.in utorrent.
my maximum uploaded rate is 0.

any suggestion.
#4 14 Jan 2010 @ 18:11
No, any port over 10,000, an ISP can monitor those under. I believe I used 34450. Take this speedtest (or any nearby): http://www.speedtest.net/index.php set it to read in kB (upper left-kilobytes) and set utorrent to the number nearest that (up or down) at options>speed guide>connection rate or similar, utorrent sets to around 80% automatically. What does port check in utorrent say? Make sure the torrent has plenty of seeds and on a public site, seeds can turn their upload down to not give so much. You can try setting Global connections higher and use Protocol Encryption: Go to:1 Options > Preferences > Bittorrent

2. Go to ‘Protocol encryption’, you can choose between ‘enabled’ and ‘forced’. ‘Enabled’ will give you more connections but offers less protection against traffic shapers.
Its recommended to try ‘enabled’ first, if that doesn’t increase your speeds you need to swich to ‘forced’.

3. Ticking ‘Allow legacy incoming connections’ allows non ecrypted clients to connect to you. This improves compatibility between clients but makes you more vulnerable to traffic shapers.

I would recommend to tick this box, but if that doesn’t increase your speeds, untick it!

The port check says: (for utorrent)
"The port is open on 45682 successfully."

How many Global connection higher?
I set it 450.!

I done every thing but my torrent speed is variable.
#6 17 Jan 2010 @ 13:41
Torrent speeds do vary, my speed was anywhere from 0 kB to hundreds kB depending on seeds and peers. If your port shows open, you're set. Fine tuning things like upload speed can help, your best bet is getting onto a private site. Members have to upload to you to maintain their ratio. Another option to look into are Newsgroups, nothing to do with torrents but no uploading and you always see full download capability or close to it. Global torrents is fine as long as it doesn't affect surfing too much, play around with it, 250-300 worked best for me. Meanwhile, if you want to see what's what, this site will give you good speeds (lots of seeds, few peers): http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ 3.1.1 is usually good, let it run 10-15 minutes.

Yes, you can't expect to always get great speeds. I was working on one where I had 6 seeds to me and wasn't getting more than 20 on average spiking to maybe 50 kb. I know it was the torrent not my connection. I was 'powering' that torrent. My ratio was over 4 for that sucker. With a bunch of fast torrents I can sustain 700+ for over 8 hrs since I hardly do anything these days.

To test your connection, pick something with over 100 seeds just for grins. You should see what you can do. What you need to do is have many torrents. If you are not being throttled, you have 20-30 active you will get a good overall speed even if each torrent is only doing single digits. If you are being throttled by your ISP you may not be able to do anything. Mine can cut the gain to your connection. The number of concurrent is under control. How much each torrent down loads to you is not.

What I do to that, after download.?
"OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe"

is this a torrent exelerator.?

Oh god.....!
my total max download speed is 110 or 120 kbps. and this torrent
"OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe"
gets speed some time 150 kbps and some times 50 kbps. what its means?
this is my three more torrent speed, seed and peers
seed peer
the da vinci code 700mb 5(8) 20(43) download kbps avg 13 kbps and decreasing

walking up in reno 700mb 9(16) 11(188) dl kbps avg 6.3kbps

Tom and jerry (MGMTAJ) 16gb 6(24) 7(139) dl kbps avg 7 kbps
"OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe" 136mb 99(234) 1(292) dl avg 51 kbps.

some time this torrent ("OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe")
got speed 170 or 180 kbps but for only its three or four second.

Nothing, delete it. It's only a free torrent that should show what speeds you're capable of. And I wouldn't name copyrighted films you're downloading. It probably means you're on a public site connected to peers with as much of the file as you and seeds with their upload speed lowered or maybe your bandwidth isn't that high, depends what plan you have.
#10 19 Jan 2010 @ 11:21
So, pls tell me where from I download max seed and low peer torrents.
I mean high download and low upload speed torrent.
#11 19 Jan 2010 @ 11:38
You would DL (Down Load) from where you have been DLing from. You can try ISOhunt. Try DLing the Beatles remastered albums in 2009. That had over 3K of seeds and very few peers the last time I looked. Report back what happened for good or bad. If you are not getting much out of that you have a problem and we may be able to resolve it.
#12 20 Jan 2010 @ 4:46
What is DLing?
I also download totterns from isohunt but its torrents is same then others.
pls tell me those web where from I got max seeds torrents.
what about Darkside.rg?
and what is the recognition of max seed and low peer torrents?
I mean that kind of torrents
OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US
#13 20 Jan 2010 @ 13:16
You're not listening, all three of your torrents have more peers than seeds, guarantees slow speeds and so does running multiple torrents. Check that the torrent you want has more seeds than peers and even that doesn't mean great speeds on a public site. Try and register on private sites and meanwhile here's a search engine you can try, polls various sites at once: http://btjunkie.org/

Hey Mistycat, well at least someone can read. I always knew you were pretty smart.

hkbeginer, just DL (Down Load, DLing is Down Loading) the specified torrent make sure it still has 3,000 to 4,000 seeds. It only had a few hundred leaches. This has NOTHING to do with Isohunt and everything to do with thousands of seeds and a tiny amount of peers. That will give you your best shot. You will be able to see how much you can do. If you are still below 100 kb something is way wrong.
#15 21 Jan 2010 @ 13:50
But I always see the torrents with equal seed and peers, or higher peer and low seeds.
I did never seen any torrents that its seed is higher and peers is lower. Like:
"Sherlock holmes" MAXSPEED
its seed is 19217 and peers is 36156.
and u know, one uploader's torrents is available in all torrent site and its seeds and peer is same like above.

I m not a advance user of Internet so pls guide me in very easy way if u can.

Where to start. First, I don't know if you're downloading that file or not but if you persist in naming copyrighted files to download, this thread will be closed and you may get a temperary ban (forum rule, not mine). Second, that's a very new file and everybody and his uncle is gonna want it so unless you get on it early, it will be slow. Wait a bit and go for older files with lots more seeds than peers, there are plenty. Besides the quality is usually higher if you're burning to DVD. There really is no secret to torrents, I just spent 48 hours getting a file off a public site I couldn't even find on a private site and my average speed must have been 25 KB where it's usually around 500 KB. Try to register on a private site like I said, members have to upload to maintain their ratio or look into Newsgroups; you'll get your full download speed and there is no uploading.
#17 22 Jan 2010 @ 9:36
Secondly, you have not under stood what we have been saying.

What I suggested was go for some torrent that has at least 100 to 1 ration for seeds to peers. You are still picking a torrent that has more than a thousand more peers than seeds. Although it has thousands of seeds it has thousands more takers than givers. You also don't have to down load the whole torrent for this test so you do not have to pick something you want to keep. This is just a test. You will start to see what you can do in a few hrs then you can kill the job. You want to find something that has thousands more givers than takers and a ratio of better than 100 to 1 seeds to peers.

I m thankfull to MR.MEZ and MR. MYSTICAT with heavy heart. For guide me deaply and listen me carefully.

Now, I'll joine some famous and trusted torrent sites. like btjunky and darksiderg.

thanks again.
#19 24 Jan 2010 @ 13:34
Send me a pm and I'll name some private torrent sites, they don't need their names mentioned in public, btjunkie isn't and never heard of the other. Also, don't know where you live but you need to be using some kind of ip blocker if you aren't, not near 100% but better than nothing. If copyrighted files aren't recognized your ISP may still cancel you if the MPAA or RIAA notifies them enough and if they are, could mean big trouble and money.
