utorrent uses 1 port, any port over 10,000 and uncheck randomize port at options>preferences>connection if it's not. Port forwarding will definitely help: http://portforward.com/english/routers/p...routerindex.htm find your router here, click on it (skip the pcconfig ad), find utorrent, click on it and follow the directions. Modem too maybe and for a static address, here: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm keep an eye out that your DNS Server (s) and Default Gateway aren't the same, post back if they are. Check out Peerblock if you're not using it and steady speeds just aren't the nature of torrenting, depends on a lot you don't control. One of the problems with torrents is even if you are capable of downloading 1000 kb that does not guarantee it. Someone or someones have to send you that info. You have no power over how much each peer sends you. Many users may be uploading many jobs and can spare only several K per job. This really bites if your job is a big job. If you want to maximize your downloading have many jobs going at once. When I was trying to make hay while the sun shines I could have had 50 up and 50 down. The fact that your downloads are all over the place indicates your can run at higher speeds but the peers are not giving you enough. You just need more peers. So either only go after torrents with hundreds of peers or do enough in parallel where you are satisfied. Note more peers means more attention from cybercops. Also if your ISP has any caps, 500 K will hit even the biggest cap even if you only run on the weekends. Be careful for what you wish for...

Port forwarding may help but I had to redo my network quite often because I was playing catchup with a hacker who really liked my port forward gigabite router. I stopped the forwarding. I can still get 150-200 while my port is blocked which is plenty for me since I am usually about done by the time they get around to blocking me.

Pretty much only the hackers know. Even the tech mag didn't fully comprehend the implications. But I assume there is software that will allow your to do the deed. On eBay I saw a 6' directional antenna that can pull a source from a mile away. Who needs an ISP!
