I've been reading about xml chapter files and I wanted to include on with my mkv files once I'd merged it using MKVMerge. I can manually create the chapters myself in XML but I was wondering if someone has already done all the hard work and created chapter files for popular movies? I'd just like to be able to download a chapter file for the LOTR film for example but can't find anything on Google.

How would you have those chapters set up? At certain time intervals, for example every 5 or 10 minutes, or based on the story line?

This would be chapters for the specific film, so it cuts at the real chapter points for that film. I could create a chapter file for time intervals very easily.

watch through the film.. note the scene breaks timing where you want to put a chapter break.. then in the xml file put those timings in the "chapters" entry.. VLC is good for watching through.. you can run a timecode on screen and pause and frame back and forward to the precise point you want to write down the chapter timing.

chapter 1 will always start at 00.00.00 but after that it's completely up to you.

This is no good to me because I want to add an xml chapter file and would like the exact chapters from the original film, I just want something quick and easy.

I've recently found Chapter Grabber if anyone is interested. It lets you extract the chapters from an existing dvd / blu-ray and create a chapter file using the save command. I haven't tried it yet but it could be quite useful. Find it here:
