MKVextractgui not working

I did the steps correctly:
1. I installed mkvtoolnix
2. Extracted the 4 mkvextractgui files to the mkvtoolnix directory

I open a .mkv file with mkvextractgui and there is no content. I clicked uncat and let it make a clone with .0. The clone doesn't have any content either.

Do I need to restart my computer?

What is the problem?

EDIT
I got an earlier version and was finally able to extract a subtitle track. So how do I embed it into an .avi file?

I was able to edit the subs and embed them, so I'm good.
