Using XP Pro SP2, VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 Build 2540

Over the past several months I've edited dozens of AVI and VOB files using VDM and the XviD MPEG-4 codec with excellent results. Suddenly, any output file I create has significantly worse quality than the original. The images shift between outright blurriness to looking like a tiled mosaic.

I saved part of an AVI file with no compression to see if there was a problem with the codec - the saved file was comparable in quality to the original. I don't recall purposely changing anything in the codec configuration and I wouldn't anyway because I wouldn't even know *what* to change.

    Video codec information ...
    Delta frames: No
    FOURCC code: 'xvid'
    Driver name: xvid.dll (in windows system32 folder - 564KB dated 5/14/2003)
    Format restrictions: No known

Encoding Mode: 1 Pass - CBR
    Bitrate (Kbps) 900

Any ideas what I can do or where to look to solve this problem?

    Thanks

Thanks for the response, attar ...

I downloaded and installed the latest XviD codec (1.22), but I haven't the foggiest idea how to get VDM to recognize it. The xvid.dll still appears in the Video codec information section. Incidentally, xvidvfw.dll is in the system32 folder.

But all this may be moot - the problem appears to exist with other codecs as well. I saved a section of a VOB file using the following codecs - MS-MPEG4 V1, V2, and V3, 3ivxD4, and ffdshow; none are acceptable and do not approach the quality that I was getting until just a few days ago.

I uninstalled VDM Build 2540 and downloaded and installed Build 2542 - no change.

I'd guess the problem is a combination of the VOB quality and the nature of VirtualDubMod because I'm now using Avidemux with MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid) compression and am getting excellent quality output.
