Hi peeps. ok, i just bought a new hd vid camera so im looking into backing up my blu-ray media too since i will be buying a br-writer soon. just a few questions... my quite adept at ripping dvds and have been using clone-dvd and any-dvd for quite some time now. does anyone know the cost of upgrading any-dvd to any-dvd hd? also, what authoring s/w can i use? since clone-dvd is just for dvd. is there something like clone-BR or something else people reccomend? also, what size are most BR movies? should i buy dual layer 50gb media or will 25 gig do for all films? i will be playing back on a ps3 btw. are there any disks that i should avoid? like the old CMC DVD disks that were terrible? what is a good br burner to get? are they all dual layer now? are there any good guides to br ripping as i guess there are a few things i need to get my head around - just like dvd ripping in the early days
I have AnyDVD/HD I got the HD as an upgrade mid(late)last year 08. I don't remember how much it cost exactly but do I know I got it and the lifetime updates for AnyDVD, CloneDVD2, & CloneCD for some attractive offer @ the time. Most BLU-RAY movies in my estimate are BD-R DUAL LAYER 25GB which which is different still from what is currently available in 25GB BD-R at a affordable price which are 25GB SINGLE LAYER. DUAL LAYER BD-R are still much more expensive. So if you want special features and menus you'll need to compress the title or back-up the main movie only. I'm still shopping for a BD software that does it all. DVDFAB seems to be the right now plan. I have the BUFFALO external MediaStation BRHC-6316U2 paid $200.00 which can read and write up to 6x speed with a Turbo 2.0 USB feature enabled. This device plays HD & BLU-RAY disc. Writes to both BD-R & BD-RE media. Also reads & writes DVD 5 & 9 DUAL LAYER and CD's as expected. Drive is mnanufactured in JAPAN and is the 1st of two models introduced last year. The other more expensive option in a 8x editon that in addition plays DVD in HDMI and also has fire wire. None of the other BD burners I've read about have the features period found on the BUFFALO brand models. Both are ahead of current available BD media spec as 4x is the current BD media write maximum. And yes it backs-up to BD-DL. Don't get it cause I got it. Get it after you have compared it to the much talked about BLU-RAY burner brands.This is a quality purchase. The others don't match up to. Because BD media is still so new on the market and expensive I don't know of a CMC variant of BD media. If there is one let us know because at these prices for the good stuff. I'd put some BD cheapos to work still. BD Back-up time frames is also an issue at this point as you'll read a single BLU-RAY back up to BD disc or file or ISO can easily take 4 to 6 hours to complete....YEAH WOW!!!! Hey your going from the ole 4.7GB or 8.5GB to BLU-RAY HI-DEF 25 & 50GB media sources. As I have mentioned before I await the availability of SLYSOFT's CLONEBD which I feel will have this whole process streamlined in the very near future. I have currently paid $69.99 for 25pk spindle of phillips BD-R 25GB single layer BD media with some coasters due to the use of unpolished online purchased RIPP-OFF BD-back up software.....so I wait.
cheers mate. i will look into the buffalo thing, but we use their NAS here at work and they suck. i might just go for internal drive as i have everything else i need regarding cd/dvd burning and a spare 5 1/4 slot in my case.
