How much difference in quality is there between a downloaded blu ray movie to the real thing? Blu ray movies can take up as much as 50gbs and when you look at the blu ray rips, they're only around 6gbs. I did some googling and I couldn't really find an answer.

I have not seen an actual download able title online or anywhere that actually claims to be HD quality for the same point that your making, file size. 25 to 50GB is massive and the key to the HD clarity that one enjoys from HD. A dual layer disc 8.5GB is the typical size of a regular non-HD store bought DVD and the titles that are found on standard DVD are compressed and because they are mostly compressed from actual 25 or 50GB format one loses that High Definition that the title was likely to have been shot in. Now my argument is space as it would take large hard drive space to download and though technology is available for backing up HD titles and files the penetration is very low with the average DVD, BLU-RAY consumer. BLU-RAY is still young. I only find it interesting to watch when a title has scenes that spark my interest of how they may look in HD. Other that that my upscale players including the upscale capability of my BLU-RAY player suffice for now.
