Looking for Blu-ray plus some kinda recorder

Totally new to Blu-ray here....Iin the process of buying my first flat screen TV so now I'm trying to plan for the DVD and recording part. My current setup is just a basic DVD for playback with a VCR to record TV shows.

First of all, I want to find out..Do they make Blu-ray players with DVR's or do I have to just get a Blu-ray and add a seperate DVR for recording TV? Also I thought the only place that you can get a true DVR is through the cable company? Tivo is not an option, by the way..I can't afford the service.

Now on the matter of upconverting...Do all Blu-ray players have this feature? Also would a Blu-ray recorder, record TV shows off the cable? I thought that they were only available in Japan too for now.

Thats enough questions for now.
